Research Programme Manager (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

The primary purpose of this role is to assist the General Manager Research and Innovation in selecting, implementing, reviewing and seeking funding for the suite of research projects that NZ Winegrowers supports. A key part of this role be establishing and maintaining strong working relationships across many facets of the NZ wine industry, from government and research organisations, to Members and industry groups. Communication will be a key success factor, as will the ability to transfer research and innovation knowledge to our Members through workshops, field days and conferences. Working across multiple research proposals, the application must be highly organized with excellent planning and time management skills.

Key functions include:

  • Assisting with the development and review of research proposals for Government funding
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with research providers, government, grape growers and wine makers, and industry bodies  
  • Helping ensure that research outputs and outcomes are achieved on time, within budget, and to a satisfactory standard
  • Developing and implementing systems to facilitate monitoring and evaluation of the research programme
  • Working closely with research communications and other team members to identify and facilitate opportunities for the transfer and up-take of know-how that results from projects, including the creation of new resources
  • Assisting with the integration of the research programme into the new NZ Winegrowers Research Centre
  • Helping drive awareness among New Zealand grape growers and wine-makers of how levy funds have been applied to successful research outcomes
  • Assisting with the development and coordination of industry workshops, field days and conferences and where necessary, helping to organise industry workshops, field days and conferences

The applicant must hold a degree, preferably post-graduate, majoring in grape or wine science, biology or related disciplines, and must have a keen interest in turning science and research into tangible outcomes for industry. Knowledge of the NZ wine industry and project management experience is preferred but not essential.

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Team player and highly motivated
