Akarua is one of Central Otago’s most respected and well known wineries. Established in 1996 by Sir Clifford Skeggs it is the largest family owned winery in Central Otago with over 135 ha’s across five vineyards. With over 70 hectares located in the prestigious Bannockburn sub region, widely regarded as the “Grand Cru” site of Central Otago,we are focused on producing world class pinot noir and sparkling wines. Akarua distribute their wines in New Zealand and internationally.
The Role:
This is a diverse and varied role created to assist the General Manager. Working in a small team you will be an enthusiastic and driven contributor. You will be exposed to a large variety of sales and marketing tasks including assisting with elements of our busy cellar door operation, social media and packaging. You will be willing and able to “pitch in” when required to assist this dynamic and growing business.
This role is full time and based at the winery in Bannockburn.
Responsibilities Include:
· PR – liason with our Auckland based PR agency to deliver a comprehensive annual PR plan, this will include approving all press releases and working with the team to generate new ideas to further profile and promote the Akaura brand to our target market.
· Cellar Door – work with the Cellar Door manager to achieve the monthly sales objectives through this channel. This will involve setting a calendar of promotions, advertising and promotion of the cellar door as a destination to visit.
· Wine Club – work with the Cellar Door Manager in managing the wine club and ensuring current members are retained. Work on avenues to increase our membership of the wine club both at the cellar door and at our new venue in Queenstown.
· Distributor Liason – assist the General Manager where required in building relationships with our distributors both domestically and overseas. This will include overseeing the wine submission process where required, responding to requests from distributors, updating order spreadsheets and documentation for all export orders.
· Social Media – responsibility for updating of website and all social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Reporting back to General Manager and board regarding online and PR performance.
· Liaise with Winemaker and GM to manage the entering of wine competitions and wines submissions into magazine tastings etc
· Logistics – work with winemaker and GM regarding the bottling of all wines. This includes ordering all dry goods, completion of bottling sheets and monitoring stock on hand each month of dry goods.
· Events – look at new opportunities to profile the Akarua brand and assist in building the event programme.
· Facilitate media, trade and VIP visits.
· Provide administration support to the general manager, especially when they are travelling.
The successful candidate will be:
· Highly organised with excellent communication skills.
· Fast learner who can work independently but also within the small team at Akarua.
· Detail focussed who can juggle a number of tasks at one time.
· A proven performer in administration and/or marketing.
· Able to work effectively under pressure and within deadlines.
· Highly competent in Microsoft Word and Excel.
