Description

To work as part of the scripting team under the guidance of the team leader to write Java web spiders to crawl wine merchant websites for specific information. Maintain and / or redevelop old spiders that fail. Train and mentor junior members of the team on web scraping technologies and methods. Perform any other development related tasks when asked by the team leader or IT Manager.

Responsibilities include:

• Browse and analyse merchant websites to find the relevant wine information.
• Write Java spider programs to crawl websites gathering wine information.
• Test spiders for errors and accuracy.
• Maintain and fix spiders that fail.
• Train junior team members.
• Manage your tasks and workload and communicate regularly with the team leader on progress and/or problems.
• Communicate with Wine-Searcher wine experts when unsure of the collection of wine related information from a merchant website.

We require:

• Experience in computer programming, Java experience preferred.
• Minimum 12 months experience in web scraping (crawling) technologies and methods.
• Code management and organisation to adhere to internal standards.
• Ability to participate in a team environment.
• Training and mentoring skills.
• Time management and organisation skills.
• Problem solving skills.
• Adaptability.
