The Granite Belt GI region is famous for large boulder national parks, gourmet food and fresh produce. Stanthorpe is an easy day trip to the beaches and attractions of Sth East Queensland, from Noosa to Surfers Paradise, and dynamic cities of Brisbane or Toowoomba.
The high rocky altitude, cool climate and granitic terrior produces wines of national standing. Australia's Highest alititude Halliday 2021 5 Star winery; Heritage Estate celebrates over 30 years in production of chardonnay, Fiano, Vermentino, Pinot Gris, Savingnon (not a spelling error), Verdelho, Marsanne in the whites and reds, Shiraz, Cabernet, Mourvedre, Grenache, Nero d'Avola, Merlot and Tempranillo with around 60 tonnes crushed each year.
A rare opportunity has arisen for a dynamic winemaker to lead all winemaking activities, working closely with the viticulture team, growers and management to maximise quality through all stages of the winemaking process. The current head winemaker will assist through Vintage 2022, to ease transition. This is a full time and long term position, with relocation assistance to Cottonvale in Queensland, and accommodation provided.
This position involves a range of activities:
⦿ monitor the growth and maturity of grapes to ensure quality
⦿ determine the correct time for harvest, crush and press grapes
⦿ clarification of juice, fermentation and filtration of wine
⦿ monitor the storage and maturation of wine
⦿ control the production of wine to ensure volume and quality are met
⦿ participate in strategic planning of winemaking
⦿ leadership and technical direction to the winemaking team
⦿ involvement in promotion, PR functions, tastings and educational sessions
⦿ participate in Continuous Improvement programs at the vineyard
⦿ be involved in events, trade shows and wine dinners
Key Responsibilities include:
▶ Maintain wine quality and specifications at every point, from vineyard to bottle.
▶ Ensure winemaking practices meet all appropriate technical standards and procedures in areas of responsibility and are in line with both the company’s policies and statutory requirements.
▶ Participate in collaborative relationships across the business (operations, sales, marketing), but most specifically with the viticulture team.
▶ Adhere to all occupational health, safety and welfare policies and procedures in line with the company’s policies. Heritage Estate is an equal opportunity employer.
About You
========
Tertiary qualifications in applied science, winemaking, viticulture or similar with previous experience in winemaking. A good understanding of wine microbiology and viticulture is essential. Proven ability in winemaking, wine tasting and assessment, wine chemistry and an interest in food matching is preferred.
The ability to work independently perform a range of tasks in winemaking with excellent time management and confidence in staff supervision.

★ Be part of a team, have good communication skills and demonstrate a safety mindset
