Assistant Winemaker

Location: Leveret Mills Reef Winery, Katikati, Bay of Plenty

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Assistant Winemaker to join our dynamic winemaking team. This role is central to the planning and execution of all production activities, from grape intake through to bottling. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in wine production, advanced Excel skills, and a passion for working collaboratively within a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the development and execution of the winery’s production plan, ensuring efficient use of time, equipment, and resources.

Maintain accurate production records and reports using Microsoft Excel and winery management software.

Collaborate closely with the Chief Winemaker to schedule and coordinate all winemaking activities including fermentations, rackings, blending, and bottling.

Monitor and manage inventory of wine, additives, and packaging materials.

Support vintage operations, including grape intake, ferment management, and cellar workflow.

Work with cellar and lab staff to ensure daily operations align with production goals and quality standards.

Communicate production updates and planning needs effectively to the Chief Winemaker and Directors.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in all production activities.

Assist in quality control and troubleshooting during all stages of production.
Key Requirements:

Proven experience in winemaking or winery production operations.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, production scheduling).

Strong organisational and time-management skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.

Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment and contribute to collaborative decision-making.

Comfortable working in both an office and cellar environment, including during peak vintage periods.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Degree in Oenology, Viticulture, or related field (preferred but not essential).
Working Conditions:

This position may require extended hours during vintage and other key production periods.

Physical activity including lifting, bending, and working in cellar conditions is required.
