We’re looking for a Vineyard Operations Manager to join the team at Cloudy Bay.  This position reports directly to the Viticulturist and will be responsible for managing people, creating and implementing systems & processes and managing vineyard operations across company vineyards in the Marlborough and Central Otago regions.  The position will drive continuous improvement across our existing vineyards and will contribute to the development of future vineyards strategy.

This role will be active in the Vineyards, particularly during harvest, effectively managing and allocating people and equipment resources.  With a focus on optimizing and balancing sustainability, quality and budget, the role will co-ordinate the spray programmes, soil and plant nutrition strategies as well as pruning across all vineyards. This role will work with others to develop annual and long-term plans to ensure grape supply is in line with the wine profile, quality targets and cost of goods.  This will include preparing and managing capital and expenditure budgets.  Vineyard development and redevelopment planning will also be important as will providing support in grower liaison and logistics.

The safety and well-being of our employees is paramount and this position will take an active and mentoring role in implementing new safety practices as well as improving our existing practices across our vineyards.  In addition to this, documenting operating procedures and managing required training will be critical.  Another key objective will include managing, coaching and engaging vineyard teams to ensure the best possible outcome for the business and for the careers of each team member.

 

In order to be successful in this position you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in viticulture, horticulture or agriculture to bachelors level
  • Mid / Senior level management experience in a Vineyard environment
  • Strong mechanical skills, with proven experience in the operation and maintenance of vineyard machinery
  • Analytical, multi-tasking, and strategy building skills
  • Ability to lead a team and build successful relationships with key stakeholders
  • Possess a strong customer focus with an overall commitment to quality
  • Time Management skills
  • Be a NZ citizen or permanent resident
