Tiki Wine and Vineyards Ltd
Canterbury,
Christchurch/Canterbury
Tiki Wine and Vineyards is a family owned and operated New Zealand business located in the heart of the Waipara grape growing and wine making region. We see ourselves as the guardians of this precious land striving to keep our impact low and our Whanau (Family) safe. We care for our vines under the guiding Maori principles of Kaitiakitanga: guardianship, protection and preservation of the earth.
The TIKI is a hand carved Maori treasure which when gifted bestows good fortune and love on others. We craft our wines with that same spirit in mind. To create our quality wines we grow quality grapes. The unique terroir of the North Canterbury soils, from the clay and limestone to the Glasnevin gravels, promotes exciting and innovative flavours in the wine. This creates an exciting opportunity for a viticulturalist to develop their skills and express their expertise in a vibrant and developing region.
We are looking for a Viticulture Technician to join our Tiki Whanau based in Waipara at our Waiata Vineyard. The position reports directly to the Vineyard Manager and works cooperatively with the management team, taking on responsibility for the technical day to day operations including management of vine and soil health and ultimately yield through operation of the irrigation system, nutrient additions, pest and disease management and crop management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversight of the irrigation system maximising vineyard potential through water management.
- Nutrient management from sampling through to nutrient planning and allocation.
- Crop forecasting, compliance and record keeping.
- Assisting with onsite machinery operations.
- Soil health and coordination of interrow and undervine plantings and maintenance.
- Frost monitoring and assisting with controls.
- Harvest support as required.
- Keeping abreast of industry technology and best practice viticultural techniques.
Our ideal candidate will be a positive, motivated individual with a variety of knowledge and skills based on experience in the wine industry. A team player who can fit in well with our team of permanent staff and contractors. We would ideally want someone with significant viticultural experience but some training would be provided for the right candidate.
The successful applicant will be joining a fun, focused and rewarding team-oriented environment.
Applicants need to be a NZ resident or have a current NZ work visa.
