Mt Beautiful is a North Canterbury winery based at Spotswood, 9kms north of Cheviot. We make wine from our 80 ha of vineyards surrounding the winery.
In 2015 we built our well-equipped winery and in 2019 we will be processing around 650T of fruit (Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay).
We are looking for a Winemaker to work as the sole charge winemaker for the site. You will work closely with a very experienced team consisting of the consulting Winemaker, Vineyard Manager, Viticultural Manager and the CEO.
The site Winemaker must have at least three years full-time cellar experience, as well as a tertiary qualification. You will need to have an excellent palate and experience of making a number of different wine styles. Ideally you should have overseas winemaking experience.
You will need the following attributes:
- Have a great attitude with an absolute focus on quality
- Enjoy being self-directed, and planning and organising work flows
- Be good at working with people and over harvest managing the day-to-day running of the winery and its staff
- Knowledge of winery process, be very practical and have a mechanical aptitude
- Be familiar with winery management software and record-keeping processes
- The ability to carry out winery analysis
This is a great opportunity to work in a very well-equipped winery making an interesting selection of very high-quality and distinctively individual wines. You will be involved in further expansion plans of the winery in 2019 and 2020.
Applicants need to be quality-focused and diligent in their work; have a passion for wine, be self-motivated and fit into a small team. The position requires a flexible attitude to working hours, to work with winery operations.
The successful candidate will report directly to the consulting Winemaker and the CEO. A competitive remuneration package, including assistance with accommodation, will be offered to the right applicant.
