An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Vineyard Manager to support our Viticulturist overseeing our Clevedon vineyard. We are a small estate-bottled property. All of our grapes are grown, fermented, barrel aged, and bottled onsite, so experience with all areas of winegrowing and winemaking is required. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in regenerative viticultural management. Tertiary qualification in viticulture or horticulture is required.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
• Vine management, including pruning, training and canopy management.
• Monitor for vine pests & deal with disease issues.
• Harvest operations
• Machinery operations for all common vineyard operations.
• Irrigation & trellis - monitoring and repairs.
• Chemical application and recording processes.
• Care and maintenance of vineyard equipment.
• Responsible for Work Safe compliance
• Develop and implement annual vineyard Operating Plan, based on biological viticulture principles.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will require:
· At least a 2 year horticulture or viticulture degree
· At least 3 years paid experience in a comparable-scale viticulture position, with a company producing premium quality grapes and wine
· Wide-ranging mechanical and technical proficiencies, with problem-solving skills across all vineyard operations
· Previous experience of a paid harvest position assisting with cellar operations such as tank preparation, winery cleanliness, and wine barrel operations
· At least a Level 2 WSET qualification and cellar door sales experience
· A thorough understanding of permaculture practices, working with the soils
Must live in Auckland and have permission to work in New Zealand
