Itasca wines has a state of the art winemaking facility on the Hampshire/Surrey border offering contract winemaking, lab and disgorging services. We believe we have built one of the most sustainable wineries in the world, with solar power and wastewater wetlands all on site. You will be involved in the production of a range of quality focused wines including still and sparkling from vineyards stretching from Essex to Cornwall.
We are now recruiting for a Vintage Winemaker role for this year's harvest. 1st September - end of October/early November. This person needs to have at least two harvests under their belt, and will be entrusted with more technical responsbilities during the harvest operation, such as operating presses and running advanced lab panels. This will be reflected in the salary offered.
Duties and responsibilities
- Co-oordinating and operating presses
- Advanced lab duties
- Winery, tank and equipment cleaning and sanitation
- Maturity sample preparation
- Fruit reception – press loading and emptying
- Racking and transfers
- Inoculations and additions
- Chaptalisation
- Red ferment management – punch downs/pump overs
- Barrel prep and management
Qualities and skills
- Previous harvest work experience essential.
- Analytical and numerate with good attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to regularly lift 25kg and comfortable working at heights
- Ability to work well as part of a team and under own initiative
Additional requirements
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Own transport is required if not living locally to Crondall
- Forklift licence desirable but not essential
- Comfortable with working twilight/night shifts when required
