Bar & Restaurant Manager (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

We are looking for an experienced bar/restaurant manager to take an active management role to lead our awesome team in the heart of Glacier Country. The Monsoon is the onsite bar & restaurant for the Rainforest Retreat, serving home cooked meals and tasty beverages daily from 4:30pm. The venue also plays host to a variety of functions – whether it be weddings, Wellness Retreats, or late-night DJ’s – and so the ideal candidate would be highly adaptable and enjoy broad selection of clientele.

A passion for food and beverage is an absolute must, having excellent product knowledge and being able to have a creative input into seasonal menu changes and drinks specials. Having experience in ordering, back-office POS systems, and working with reps to get quality products and competitive pricing.

Customer service is our top priority, and so being personable and having an accommodating nature is essential. We are also looking for someone who has confidence in their leadership abilities, using positive encouragement and great communication to get the best results from their team.

You will be offered a minimum of 35 hours and a maximum of 45.  In peak periods there will be occasions for additional hours all pending the needs of the business.

An outline job description is as follows, all of which is negotiable:

  • To take an active roll in both front and back of house
  • Ensure all bar and wait staff are trained correctly, performing and understanding their jobs as set out in their individual job descriptions
  • Ensure all staff are aware of their obligations pursuant to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and the company’s host responsibility plan.
  • Maintain professional relationships with suppliers and representatives.  Be responsible for the purchasing of stock, stocktakes, deliveries and invoicing.
  • Strive to achieve the highest possible customer survey results and look for opportunities to increase business by encouraging guest’s recommendations through word of mouth and online reviews
  • Manage wage costs
  • Ensure a clean, safe and disciplined working environment
  • Ensure all equipment is kept clean and tidy and in good working condition, this includes beer lines, fridges, chiller room equipment, tills and computers and sound systems.
  • Ensure the POS systems are correctly programmed and working correctly.
  • Ensure bar and wait staff can confidently describe wine list and menu items, and can make recommendations when asked to do so
  • Maintain a high level of morale and team cooperation 
  • Use company’s online communication portal to manage your day to day activities
  • Ensure the prompt and efficient service of all meals, snacks, and beverages 
  • Ensure company and statutory hygiene standards are maintained in all areas. Take responsibility for managing the company’s food hygiene and safety plan.
  • Hold regular performance appraisals with all management staff, identifying areas for development and training needs, and ensure this training is adequately maintained. Performance appraisals shall be carried out in accordance the individual contract agreements.
  • Host regular staff meetings to communicate with staff any issues, praise, and developments. Be available to receive feedback and ideas from staff
  • Participate as a constructive member of the management team with the view to maximizing business sales volumes and profitability.
  • Other duties as required that would be consistent with the management role.

If you have a General Managers certificate that has expired the company will happily cover the cost of the renewal.
