NZ Winegrowers Research Centre
Marlborough,
Marlborough
New Zealand Winegrowers Research Centre (NZWRC) was established with government funding from MBIE as a Regional Research Institute, based in Marlborough to support the continued, sustainable success of the NZ wine industry. Owned by New Zealand Winegrowers, NZWRC will undertake a range of applied and more fundamental scientific research right across the wine industry, from grape to glass.
Although NZWRC is in an ‘establishment’ phase, the wine industry has a long history of high quality scientific research conducted with research partners in New Zealand and internationally. We are recruiting for a Data Coordinator whose key objective will be cataloguing and organising the industry’s existing scientific research information, to allow researchers to easily identify and access previous results. As part of a small Data Science team we will be establishing, the role may also provide statistical support for the research centre’s research activities, including advising on experimental design and managing data in line with, and to ensure compliance with data standards.
This is a fixed term (1 year) role to deliver the catalogue of historical research information, and ideally will be based in Marlborough. We can offer flexible work arrangements, a friendly and collegial workplace with opportunities to interact with research and scientific staff from organisations we are located alongside, and competitive remuneration.
Our ideal candidate:
- has an advanced degree and preferably a PhD qualification in a relevant field
- has experience in analysing, modelling and visualising data from diverse experimental platforms (e.g. genomic, chemical, phenotypic and meteorological data)
- understands the checking, cataloguing and curation requirements for viticulture and wine science data types
- has published work in peer reviewed scientific publications
- has experience in publishing book chapters, reviewing articles and popular articles, and presenting results at scientific and industry conferences
- develops good relationships and is a clear communicator
Wine industry experience is preferred but not essential. Familiarity with Bayesian models is an advantage, or willingness and demonstrated ability to build this expertise.
