Firstly a bit about us - The Giesen Group is a family-owned and operated producer of internationally-recognised premium New Zealand wine and beer. Established in 1981, the Giesen Brothers are seen as one of the pioneers of the New Zealand wine industry and leaders in producing Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The Company has grown into a strong brand both domestically and also on the international stage where they export premium quality wine across the world.

We are looking for a Grower Viticulturist to support the management of our large portfolio of growers. Reporting to the Company Viticulturist, your primary focus will be to monitor the acquisition, growing to specification and orderly delivery of grower fruit from Marlborough, Hawkes Bay and Waipara.

Specific areas of responsibility will also include:

  • Building and developing key relationships within the industry.
  • Negotiating grape supply and lease agreements.
  • Providing our growers with the right technical and business recommendations.
  • Co-ordinating the grape intake for the Marlborough region, whilst overseeing other key grower regions.
  • Planned regular vineyard inspections to manage and ensure grapes meet required specifications.
  • Reporting yield and industry trends to the larger Giesen Group.
  • Balancing supply and demand forecasts to achieve optimum results for the group.  

In addition, you will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Horticulture, Science or related field.
  • An understanding of SharePoint and winery operating software.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of the viticulture industry with at least 5 years’ experience.
  • A sound knowledge of compliance requirements related to the viticulture and wine industry.

While needing a high level of “know-how”, drive and initiative you will also have that balance of technical skills combined with a pragmatic approach.
