Research Winery Manager
(Wine Jobs:
Vineyards & Cellars )
Full Time
Bragato Research Institute
Marlborough,
Marlborough
Bragato Research Institute (BRI) was established with government funding from MBIE as a Regional Research Institute, based in Marlborough to support the continued, sustainable success of the NZ wine industry. Owned by New Zealand Winegrowers, BRI will undertake a range of applied and fundamental scientific research right across the wine industry, from grape to glass.
With strong industry support and establishment funding from government, we're building capability, infrastructure, and a range of research programmes. The research winery - currently under construction to be operational for 2020's vintage - is a key piece of research infrastructure the BRI will deliver.
The Research Winery Manager will have overall responsibility for the management and operation of the facility - ensuring research winemakers can undertake trials in the best conditions possible. This includes:
- completing 'set up' of the winery and systems
- coordinating and scheduling operations
- liaising with internal and external clients
- responsibility for all winery logistics and operating systems including Health & Safety, record-keeping, and regulatory compliance
- 'chipping in' as part of the research winemaking team when needed
- driving sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives
As well as providing facilities for research winemaking, the winery is a 'project' in, and of itself. The Research Winery Manager will be encouraged to use the facility to test, model and innovate around new techniques, equipment, and processes for quality, cost and environmental improvements. With a commitment to sustainability, developments are planned around waste water treatment, water efficiency and solar power is already part of the build.
Based in Marlborough, the appointee will have significant winemaking experience, with research winemaking experience highly desirable, but not essential. A science qualification would also be an advantage.
