Viticulturalist - Research and Extension (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Full Time

  Bragato Research Institute

  Marlborough, Marlborough

Bragato Research Institute (BRI) was established with government funding from MBIE as a Regional Research Institute, based in Marlborough to support the continued, sustainable success of the NZ wine industry. Owned by New Zealand Winegrowers, BRI will undertake a range of applied and more fundamental scientific research right across the wine industry, from grape to glass.

Although BRI is in an ‘establishment’ phase, the wine industry has a long history of high quality scientific research conducted with research partners in New Zealand and internationally.

Are you a highly experienced, senior viticulturalist who understands scientific processes and scientific and technical information?

Or perhaps you have a  relevant science qualification and research experience plus practical, grass-roots credibility?

In either case we're looking for someone to provide expert viticultural input into our science programmes, as well as lead the communication and extension of our research results into industry, and we'd like to hear from you.

We can offer flexible work arrangements, a friendly and collegial workplace, opportunities to interact with research and scientific staff from organisations we are located alongside, and competitive remuneration.

The role is based in Marlborough, but works for the benefit of the entire industry, so frequent domestic travel will be required. Some international travel is also involved.

Our ideal candidate:

  • 10+ years experience relevant to winegrowing.
  • Either:
    • Has worked in a senior capacity (e.g. at regional or company viticulturalist level), with a relevant qualificiation, or
    • A relevant advanced science degree with  detailed practical understanding of winegrowing.
  • Familiar with and interest in the research/science process.
  • Strong technical knowledge and familiarity with science undertaken relating to winegrowing.
  • Ability to understand scientific papers and interpret and communicate outcomes and what that means in practice – how results and knowledge arising from research can be implemented.
  • Proven team leadership and project management skills.

Applicants must be legally able to reside and work in New Zealand.

Apply before 20 May 2019
