ABOUT THE RUNHOLDER
The Runholder is the new home of Te Kairanga, Martinborough Vineyard and Lighthouse Gin in Martinborough.
Nestled on the edge of the famed Martinborough Terrace, our restaurant, tasting room and distillery gather Wairarapa’s best food, fine wines and famous gin together under one roof, with spectacular views of Martinborough’s rolling countryside.
Guests feast on contemporary menus of local produce, enjoy the wines of two iconic Martinborough wineries, and see the distiller at work while sipping on Martinborough’s original gin & tonic.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
We are looking for a positive, energetic person to join our team. Working across both tastings and retail, you will play an important role in creating memorable experiences for our visitors. As a senior member of The Runholder team, you will lead from the front to deliver great wine, gin and dining experiences, including mentoring junior staff and assisting them in their development alongside the Venue Manager.
Working well in a team toward a common goal, empathy towards others, a positive attitude towards personal development, showing integrity and a ' can do' work ethic are essential.
This is a full time permanent role including weekends and evenings.
ABOUT YOU
You will have demonstrated success in the hospitality industry including food and beverage service environments, in particular in upscale and/or fine dining and 100+ capacity venues. Experience in retail or managing a tasting room or cellar door is a bonus. A certificate or undergraduate degree in the hospitality field is preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute a great standard of service throughout the venue and support staff to consistently achieve this.
- Host visitors through wine and gin tastings and sales, bringing to life the stories of our region and brands.
- Shift management of the restaurant, bar and running staff ensuring a harmonious relationship over the pass.
- Side-by-side guidance and mentorship for junior members of staff, building their capabilities to provide consistently excellent service and their confidence to upsell.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of wines, gins, and menus by attending staff training sessions with winemakers, distiller and culinary team.
- Act as the thermometer relative to how customers feel about The Runholder.
- Support the Venue Manager to deliver successful functions and private dining events.
- Daily and weekly administrative duties including cash handling, reconciliations and reporting, reporting, ordering and stock management.
- Full understanding of POS, reservation and rostering systems.
This is a permanent role and all applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand without needing sponsorship.
