An exciting opportunity for an experienced Winemaker to be in charge of winemaking for a small family owned winery in Central Otago. Producing world class premium wines from their sustainably accredited vineyard and state of the art on-site winery.

Position type:  Part–time with the prospect for a full-time position and management role for the right applicant

Key tasks include:

• Responsibility for the entire winemaking process, from grape harvesting through to bottling at all times optimising quality and efficiency
• Working alongside and in constant discussion with the viticultural manager and his team 
• Contributing to the development of a long term strategy for the winemaking operation of the company and the pursuit of excellence. 
• Participating in a range of in house and external promotional activities such as tastings, PR functions, VIP visits and educational sessions to raise the overall profile of company products and winemaking styles.  
• Abiding by sustainable wine growing standards and proposing and managing initiatives that meet and exceed SWNZ & ISO14001 standards for all operations.
• Development and maintenance of accurate reporting schedules to allow for clear communication lines with the Company owner, sales team and administration staff 

Qualifications and experience

Required: 

• Professional winemaking experience of at least three to four vintages.
• Administration skills and strong computer literacy
• Familiarity with sustainable vineyard practices.
• Familiarity with OSH, and agricultural safety equipment and practices.
• Laboratory skills
• Strong communication and relationship building skills.
• Experience in dealing with contractors and/or supervising teams.
• Must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.

Desirable:

• A tertiary qualification in Oenology, Viticulture, or  other relevant field.
