Bar Manager required for Vineyard & Italian Restaurant (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

  • Days of work - At least 5 days of work including weekends

The Vineyard encompasses 7.7 hectares on a north facing slope set amongst a sheltered amphitheatre and a narrow rocky strip believed to be 30 million set years older than the rest of the Island.

Located at the end of a country lane, this vineyard and restaurant is family-owned with Italian flair and a passion for traditional winemaking. For four generations the family have been immersed in the art of food and wine.

The owner has transformed this Waiheke Island vineyard into a place people will visit to wine, dine and have 'layers of experience'. We pride ourselves in delivering seasonal, sustainable, organic cuisine from our garden with only the best ingredients and we also produce our own olive oil.

We are looking for the right candidate to assist in running our busy Restaurant with particular focus on the running of the bar service including table service. Other operations will be to assist for functions, weddings, our wine distribution and our "En Primuer" Club. and also looking after our addition 'La Locanda’. our more relaxed bistro where we serve small plates and mainly the running the wine tasting  

Ideal candidates will have energy, enthusiasm, and a "can-do" attitude, be quality focused with exceptional customer service skills, and be passionate and experienced about wine, food and people. Excellence in writing and Microsoft Excel knowledge is required.

  • Italian food and wines match knowledge
  • Maintain immaculate personal presentation, and a clean, safe, tidy, and hygienic work environment
  • Have excellent comprehension of the English language
  • At least 1 years’ experience in similar role is essential

Because this role would require you to be over at Waiheke, it would be suitable for someone who is willing to relocate to Waiheke Island.

Position Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:   

  • Bar Management
  • Co-ordinate and plan the Wine and Cocktail lists for Poderi Crisci - for approval with the Owners
  • Oversee the running of the bar area
  • Maximizing the return of beverage sales and minimizing the cost of it
  • In charge for beverage purchases, explore the prices from different suppliers in accordance with the budget
  • Train and supervise junior staff member
  • Planning and organising group bookings, events and functions
  • Responding to customers inquiries and complaints about goods and services
  • Planning and preparing work schedules and assigning staff to specific duties
  • Interviewing, hiring, evaluating, dismissing and promoting staff, and resolving staff grievances
  • Instructing staff how to handle difficult and complicated sales procedures
  • Examining returned goods and deciding on appropriate action
  • In charge for beverage purchases, explore the prices from different suppliers in accordance with the budget
  • Train and supervise junior staff member

 General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all ingredients are available and prepared correctly for service
  • Take reservations, treat guests with courtesy and attention to ensure their satisfaction
  • To have an outstanding knowledge of Poderi Crisci wine list and beverage menu
  • Comply with all Restaurant Rules, Health and Safety regulations and uphold the Sale of Liquor Act
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures to ensure guest safety

 Stock

  • Input invoices daily and maintain the records of stock levels
  • Ensure all stock ordered is received and stored correctly
  • Responsible for weekly beverage stock take
  • Ensure appropriate beverage stock levels are maintained
  • Print end of month stock reports
  • Create products for POS system as required on Kounta
  • Update beverage lists as required

 Equipment

  • Ensure that all bar fridges and equipment for chill areas are working 100% communicate any need of repair to CEO and then the liaising with the Contractors for maintenance of Poderi Crisci hardware
  • Conduct monthly stock take of glassware
  • Be responsible for ordering and printing of wine glasses
  • Ensure all bar equipment is operational
  • Be aware of gas cylinder stock for kegs and post-mix
  • Order glassware as required

This position will suit someone who is willing to relocate to Waiheke Island.
