Mudbrick Vineyard, a multi-award-winning winery on Waiheke Island, is seeking a harvest cellar hand to join our small, hands-on team for the upcoming vintage. This role is perfect for someone who values precision, cleanliness, and wants to learn every stage of winemaking in a close-knit, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with grape intake, weighing, and documentation
  • Hand-sort fruit to strict quality standards
  • Operate small-scale crusher/destemmer and basket or pneumatic press
  • Perform manual punch-downs and gentle pump-overs
  • Monitor fermentations (temperature, Brix, sensory checks)
  • Prepare and assist with additions under winemaker direction
  • Transfer wine between small tanks, fermenters, and barrels
  • Fill, top, empty, and clean barrels using hot water or steam
  • Maintain meticulous sanitation of all cellar equipment and work areas
  • Take samples and assist with basic lab measurements

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding work
  • Comfortable working long hours, early mornings, and weekends, during harvest
  • Positive attitude and ability to work closely within a small team
  • Previous harvest or winery experience preferred

Safety & Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable working around CO₂, chemicals, and confined spaces
  • Willing to follow all safety protocols and use PPE
  • Physically able to handle a large and continuous workload

Position Details:

  • Seasonal harvest role (EOM January – EOM April)
  • Full-time hours during harvest
  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience
  • Applicant must have the legal right to work in NZ
  • Applicant must be willing to relocate to Waiheke Island for the duration of employment.
