Winemaker - Gladstone Sub-Region, Wairarapa, New Zealand
We are seeking a Winemaker for our growing business. This role is multi-faceted and will be a key member of the URLAR team. This role will commence late-September 2024, or by arrangement. The position is a physically-active role and requires a strong balance of hands-on and technical skills in our brand-new state-of-the-art winery.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in supervising all day-to-day cellar operations
- Supervise and train vintage staff
- Assist with laboratory analysis
- Review and implementation of SOP
- Oversee safety training and management of compliance issues to provide a safe work place
- Maintain winery equipment and winemaking facilities
- Finish wines for bottling
- Reporting and audit to a regulatory body
- Occasional hosting at our onsite tasting room and engaging with our customers during winemaker dinners, festivals etc. when required
Desired skills and experience:
- Degree in Oenology or equivalent
- Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process, both fermentation and finishing wines
- Confident in team communication and leadership skills
- Strong maths/lab skills and good engineering/mechanical knowledge
- Experience in a premium organic/non-organic winemaking environment focused on pinot noir
- Strong organizational, teambuilding and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
- Strong forklift operating skills
- Great communication skills, both written and spoken
- Great sense of humour and positive thinking
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Commitment to the Wairarapa region
