About the Role
Now we are looking for an assistant winemaker to join our excellent winemaking team. The right candidate needs to have base knowledge on the winemaking industry.
This role incorporates in assist winemaking and managing grapes quality. The duties will include all aspects of assist in developing, planning, and managing the day-to-day winery operations.
Pay rate: based on experience
Duties and Responsibilities
Overall assist in supervising all day to day running of the winery.
Duties include:
- Assist in supervising all day-to-day cellar operations, including harvest, sanitation, cellar organization and bottling.
- Supervise casual worker in grape receiving, crushing, pressing and wine production operations during harvest.
- Provide winemaking technical support to the Winemaker and production staff.
- Examine grape samples to assess ripeness, sugar, and acid content.
- Undertake tests to identify the chemical composition and reactive properties of juice and wine
- Participate in wine tasting at all stages throughout the winemaking process and be responsible for conducting evaluation and recommendation of treatments.
- Maintaining a clean tasting area in the laboratory.
- Assist the winemaker to blend wine and juice according to formula and knowledge of winemaking techniques.
- Assist the winemaker to develop quality control procedures and safety standards for the manufacture of wine and juice products.
- Examine wine quality before packaging by inspecting, taking samples, and adjusting treatment conditions
- Creating cellar work orders and coordinating cellar work and workflow out to the cellar.
- Maintaining wine equipment in cellar to ensure effective operation.
- Maintain accurate wine tracking.
- Ensuring appropriate records are kept for all winemaking operations in accordance with current legislation and industry practices.
- Ensuring appropriate inwards and outwards grape, bulk juice and bulk wine records are maintained in accordance with current legislation and industry practice.
- Perform monthly stock take and reconciliation.
- Advising on maintenance of vineyard and winery during off-season.
- Managing inventory levels of supplies and materials required for the wine production.
- Perform monthly stocktake and reconciliation.
- Organizing wine bottling, labelling, packaging, storing and delivery.
- Participate in winery tours and tastings with visitors as required.
- Working with sales team to develop wine products based on the previous sales.
- Provide information required for account department.
- Other ad hoc matter based on required basis.
About You
- Tertiary Qualification in Winemaking or bachelor’s in science
- Well organized and detailed in work
- Excellent communication skills
- Good palate and passion for wine.
